The State of the Union

Permalink 01/25/11 23:58, by frank fors fortis, Categories: Background

In 1869 or there abouts some Queenslanders of repute wanted to divide the state into 3 provinces. Simplistically, the South, Capricornia (the middle) and the North. Of course the capital (the South) and the power did not think that this was either a good idea or necessary and so nothing ever came of it but the quiet disgruntlment by a persistent few rumbled on throughout the years and to this day comes to a head whenever the money taxed in Capricornia goes South, at a time like now when Capricornia can use it, to prop up or feather the hats of the population centres where the cholesterol cats live.

Enough is enough. We know the floods came with greater surprise and more ferocity in the south and our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones and in fact to each and every person that suffered any sort of loss. One cannot stare down the rushing waters but those fools who try, might, in the last seconds of trying, find God. Let us hope so. But up here we have suffered too and for quite a bit longer. Out west they breed them tough so you don't hear much about them. They simply pick themselves up, shrug it off and work it out with their mates. On the coast however we, to our detriment, nurture a sort of defaco relationship with the big southern city which relegates us to the status of something like second cousins thrice removed, like we intermarry and produce children with three heads. We are fools. The royalties and taxes collected from the mines in the Fitzroy basin are spent building traffic tunnels or river walks in Brisbane while the oversized trucks bringing the riches to the state negotiate pot holes the size of small cars for hundreds of kilometres on end endangering both themselves and on coming traffic.

Enough is enough. I say secede now. I nominate myself as the president of Capricornia as the new state will be called. I have a team of lawyers pouring over state and fedral laws as we speak.  They have assured me that this can happen. We will include Townsville, Cairns and the Daintree too in the annex because we want to steal their tourism dollars to stuff our own coffers. I have a vision.
